The Andrews Labor Government is helping the Sunbury community commemorate the centenary anniversary of the beginning of the Western Front campaign.

Josh Bull the State Member for Sunbury today announced help for local communities for projects or initiatives that commemorate the important chapter in our military history. Local Governments can apply for grants of $2000 for their own unique projects.

Our veterans gave us a great gift, and it’s our duty to preserve their legacy for future generations to cherish. The touching commemorative events and activities help tomorrow’s leaders gain a better understanding of Australia’s wartime contribution.

Almost 300,000 Australians served on the Western Front, and more than 46,000 died in action. Australian soldiers suffered through extreme conditions on the front line, while a nation was left grieving back home as the enormity of the war set in.

The Labor Government recently unveiled the I Will Remember web app, as part of the new Victoria Remembers the Western Front microsite, which allows Sunbury locals to share their personal connections with World War I.

Photographic tributes will give brave Sunbury servicemen and women the fitting commemoration they deserve.

The web app will highlight the connection of those Victorians who served in World War I and Victorians today. Many [Sunbury] residents have a connection to the War – a relative who served on the battleground, a nurse who cared for the wounded, or even someone who lived in their home.
