MICKLEHAM ROAD UPGRADE TO IMPROVE TRAVEL TIMES

Motorists will benefit from reliable travel times and a safer journey with the planned upgrade to the busy Mickleham Road interchange as part of the $1.3 billion CityLink Tulla Widening project.

Josh Bull, the Member for Sunbury, visited the Mickleham Road interchange today, which will be upgraded so residents in the north west of Melbourne can have improved travel times and safer access to the Tullamarine Freeway.

The Andrews Labor Government is getting on with improving travel times and this upgrade will include building a dedicated new lane from Mickleham Road to the M80 and another from the Tullamarine Freeway to the M80 which will be elevated to cross over Mickleham Road.

An extra lane will also be added to Mickleham Road entrance to the Tullamarine freeway to increase capacity.

The Mickleham Road entrance to the Tullamarine Freeway city bound is congested during peak periods and can back up for kilometres.

Traffic can come to a standstill on the freeway where motorists weave trying to get off the Tullamarine Freeway to the M80, while motorists are trying to get onto the freeway from Mickleham Road.

The new lanes being built will separate the traffic that is trying to get to the M80 from the Tulla, from the traffic that is trying to get onto the Tulla and the M80 from Mickleham Road which will improve safety and get rid of the weaving and stop start traffic as cars are trying to get on and off the freeway.

The upgrade is one of the key intersections being upgraded as part of the CityLink Tulla Widening Project which will also see an extra lane added to CityLink and the Tullamarine freeway between the city and the airport to ease congestion, boost reliability and improve safety.
