HUNDREDS OF NEW CAR PARKS ON TRACK FOR SUNBURY STATION

The Andrews Labor Government is a step closer to building more than 300 new commuter car parks at Sunbury Station, providing much needed relief for locals who struggle to find a park.

Member for Sunbury Josh Bull today announced a location has been secured – the new spaces will be built in a multi-deck car park on the western side of the station.

The current deck will be extended, and an additional level will be added to the car park, making it quicker and easier for Sunbury residents to drive to the station and catch the train.

Parking spots near the station are in high demand, with the with the current 600-car park regularly full from early in the morning during the week.

Today’s announcement means that detailed planning on the car park design can now begin, so we can get on and build them as soon as possible.

The new car park will also provide accessible parking for people with disability, secure storage facilities for cyclists and better access for pedestrians.

The Sunbury Station car park upgrade is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s $60 million investment to deliver more than 2,000 new car parks at busy metropolitan stations.

Planning works will continue into next year along with consultation with the local community and stakeholders.

Construction is expected to begin in 2019.
