Members Statements – SRI LANKA INDEPENDENCE DAY

Mr J BULL (Sunbury) (10:00:45): It was wonderful to represent the Premier and the Minister for Multicultural Affairs at a 71st anniversary celebration of the independence of Sri Lanka on Monday night. Sri Lanka’s independence day is celebrated on 4 February and commemorates its political independence from British rule on that same day in 1948. The day is a national holiday in Sri Lanka and is celebrated all over the country through a flag-hoisting ceremony, dances, parades and performances. Our government is committed to supporting all Victorians and their cultural heritage and identity, including through the celebration of national days such as the one that our Sri Lankan community celebrated on Monday night. I am thrilled to be the Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs.
