Member for Sunbury Josh Bull today announced the commencement of works on the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre’s new warm water pool.

The project has received equal funding from the Andrew Labor Governments’ Growing Suburbs Fund (GSF) and Hume City Council, with both contributing $2 million.

The 15m x 12m warm water pool will complement the centre’s existing indoor 25m pool and gymnasium, while delivering a range of rehabilitation services currently not available to the Sunbury community.

It will also host sports recovery sessions, health wellbeing aquatic classes and learn-to-swim classes, which will free up space in the existing pool.

Additional rehabilitation facilities are vital for Sunbury’s ageing demographic, with more than 10% of its overall population aged 65 years or older.

The GSF targets high priority projects that improve the amenity and liveability of communities in Victoria’s booming outer suburbs.

Hume City Council has received $9.72 million to deliver nine projects over the past two years from the GSF.

The pool is expected to be completed in late 2017.
