NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS FOR BUSY TULLAMARINE INTERSECTION

The Andrews Labor Government has begun works on a $3.1 million upgrade to boost safety at the Mickleham Road and Melrose Drive intersection in Tullamarine.
Member for Sunbury Josh Bull today inspected the works which include installing traffic lights and modifying the existing layout and approaches to the roundabout.
The upgrade includes widening the approaches and circulating lanes around the roundabout, an additional lane north of Melrose Drive and improved street lighting, signage and line marking and skid resistance.
The upgrade will address the current crash trend of drivers failing to recognise the intersection and failing to give way to other drivers at the intersection.
Pedestrian operated signals will be added to Melrose Drive just south of the intersection to provide residents with access to the nearby shops.
Over a seven year period there were 17 crashes at the intersection, nine of which resulted in serious injuries.
The project was funded through the Government’s Safe System Road Infrastructure Program (SSRIP).
SSRIP is funded by the Transport Accident Commission and aims to deliver projects that reduce the number of crashes on Victorian roads.
