MAJOR SPORTS RESERVE UPGRADE FOR HUME NOW OPEN

A major redevelopment of a popular recreation reserve in Hume has given local people a great place to play sports, meet up and get active thanks to support from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Member for Sunbury Josh Bull MP representing Minister for Local Government Shaun Leane, officially opened the $4.3 million new facilities at the McMahon Recreation Reserve today.

The project received $2.06 million from the 2017-18 round of the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, which supports the creation of community connections, enhanced services, and provides greater opportunities at the local level.

The redevelopment includes a new football and cricket oval, netball court, playground and fitness stations, alongside a new multi-sport pavilion.

A home for local AFL, netball, cricket and softball clubs, the McMahon Reserve caters for six of Hume’s fastest-growing areas and is a popular facility for community members of all ages.

The project has been delivered by the Hume City Council, which contributed $2.06 million towards the redevelopment. $100,000 funding also came from Sports and Recreation Victoria’s Country Football and Netball Program.

The Growing Suburbs Fund is a $325 million investment over six years in critical local infrastructure in Melbourne’s diverse and fast-growing outer suburbs.

Since the launch of the fund in 2015, Hume City Council has received more than $25 million from the fund towards 26 different projects.
