COMMUTER CAR PARK ONE STEP CLOSER FOR SUNBURY

The Victorian Government is making it easier for Sunbury locals to catch the train with the new multi-deck car park at Sunbury Station set to improve parking and access to public transport. The new car park will offer more than 300 additional commuter car parking spaces plus more than 200 spaces for shoppers and traders. The new car park will feature accessible parking, enhanced lighting, and secure bike storage. The station car park construction tender will open soon with construction on the project expected to start from late 2021. The project is jointly funded by The Victorian Government and Hume City Council, which will also lead delivery of the project. The Sunbury station car park upgrades are being delivered as part of the Car Parks for Commuters Program, a state-wide program helping to deliver 11,000 new and upgraded car parks across Victoria. These additional car parks will free up local streets, generate jobs, and make it easier to catch the train. Learn more about the program at carparks.vic.gov.au The Victorian Government has delivered almost 10,000 new and upgraded car parks across the state since 2014. Along with upgrades to car parking, work will also begin this year on the Gap Road level crossing removal after the project gained planning approval last month. The Gap Road level crossing will be replaced with a new rail bridge and a road underpass on Gap Road/Station Street between Horne Street and Evans Street, including a shared path on both sides to provide a safe connection for pedestrians and cyclists. It will be delivered in conjunction with the $2.1 billion Sunbury Line Upgrade, which has allowed construction on the crossing to be brought forward by two years and will help minimise disruption to the community. The Sunbury Line Upgrade will prepare the line for bigger, more modern trains that will run when the Metro Tunnel opens in 2025, giving passengers access to five new stations in Melbourne’s CBD, Arden, Parkville and St Kilda Road. Upgrades to suburban roads in Melbourne’s north-west are progressing, with major construction to add 17 kilometres of new lanes on Craigieburn Road between Hume Highway and Mickleham Road due to get underway in the coming months. A construction partner will be appointed for the Sunbury Road Upgrade this year, with these improvements increasing capacity and connecting communities to the booming Sunbury town centre. Planning is also underway for future major road upgrades in Melbourne’s north. Improvements to the Calder and the M80 Freeways as well as the Bulla Bypass will reduce congestion and improve travel times in the area. Other upgrades to Mickleham Road, Somerton Road and Craigieburn East Road will improve journey time, safety and connections to the rail network. Quotes attributable to Member for Sunbury Josh Bull “Improving car parking capacity at Sunbury Station is crucial to servicing this thriving local community and I look forward to seeing works starting on these upgrades later this year.” “This announcement is an important step in delivering additional car parking at Sunbury Station to ensure we meet the future needs of our community.”

MP CALLS FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR LOCAL HEALTHCARE IN SUNBURY

Member for Sunbury Josh Bull is today calling for more funding for Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health. Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health’s main site at 12-28 Macedon Street is currently operating beyond capacity and in 2020 the organisation acquired additional land to expand the large array of services they already provide. To cater for growth and increased demand, Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health is working with the Member for Sunbury with the aim of securing further funding to provide local mental health and community support. It is hoped that increased local services could assist residents, particularly young people with mental health issues who are currently forced to travel long distances for support, as well as dedicated child and youth health services. An expansion of facilities would also help to address the impact of last year and our recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health has had a strong and positive relationship with the Member for Sunbury, and it is hoped that this renewed call for funding will result in a good outcome for local residents. Quotes attributable to Member for Sunbury Josh Bull “Providing local fantastic healthcare services and infrastructure is at the centre of Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health.” “I know health is critically important for many in our growing community - that is why I am calling for more support.” “Investing in Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health means more resources for excellent local care.” Quotes attributable to Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health CEO Phillip Ripper “Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health greatly appreciates the tireless work of our local Member to improve services and infrastructure in our community.” “Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health looks forward to continuing to work with the State Government on the roll out of recommendations from the ground-breaking Royal Commissions into Family Violence and Mental Health and increasing access to services closer to home.”

MP CALLS FOR AN UPGRADE TO BUS INTERCHANGE

It is time to upgrade the bus interchange at Sunbury Station. Member for Sunbury Josh Bull announced today a campaign to secure funding to upgrade the bus interchange. The bus interchange hasn’t seen any major upgrade in years. It is outdated and in poor condition. As the Labor Government gets on and delivers the massive multi deck car park (with construction to start this year), the level crossing removal, as well as station platform upgrades and the installation of high capacity signals – the bus interchange should not be left behind. Upgrades to the shelter, roads, landscaping and signage are needed. Funding would deliver a modern and clean bus interchange and provide a better public transport network for commuters, residents and visitors alike. The community continues to advocate strongly for its upgrade. For more information visit www.joshbull.com.au and sign up to receive email updates. Quotes attributable to Member for Sunbury Josh Bull “Our local bus interchange has been well used by many in our community over many years but it’s time for an upgrade.” “Residents, bus companies, local businesses and travelers often raise the condition of the bus interchange with me and over the next few months I will be seeking their support to help get the upgrade funded.”
